Wonder how Wall Street would respond if someone posed as a cybersecurity expert to track their illegal trades?
@catlin201 Would you find it appropriate for the FBI to hack a bank then offer to come on network as a cyber consultant?

@emptywheel In appropriate circumstances against a difficult target, yes absolutely. -
@catlin201 Without a warrant? -
@emptywheel When has the FBI ever hacked a US entity without a warrant? -
@catlin201 Did FBI have a warrant to hack that kid? Is SilkRoad 1.0, run by an American, a US entity? Does that merit a 703 order? -
@emptywheel I've never seen an allegation that they had no warrant. Silk road was openly illeagal, so why should we expect otherwise? -
@catlin201 Then you haven't read any of the court documents. If FBI insists it doesn't know foreignness of Internet stuff, won't get warrant -
@emptywheel Looking around, I see a lot of allegations that the FBI did something bad. -
@emptywheel I don't see any official FBI statement that they have the right to hack US persons without a warrant. - 5 more replies
