If my google searches are correct, not one major US newspaper has covered the DEA/Sinaloa story. Chicago papers should be fucking ashamed.
@onekade Note there's also been some work rethinking that interpretation of Sinaloa's role in Chicago.
I blame the claims on dragnetting.

@emptywheel it's funny tho cuz it's the DEA's own argument! its SAC there claims Sinaloa is running 80% of Chicago's heroin game. -
@onekade Yes. DEA, who likely arrives at its understanding from viewing everything through a 3-degree-of-separation theory of belonging. -
@emptywheel i'm not saying they are right. but their published claims on the matter + evidence they protect Sinaloa = very bad PR -
@onekade Agree. Always happy for people to dig into the dirty business of DEA. -
@emptywheel@onekade Agree, sunlight good. But this story is not even tip of iceberg, to the point of being deceptively hollow. -
@bmaz@emptywheel what's the iceberg? also, do you think Karzai is connected to this? -
@onekade@emptywheel Iceberg?? Well, it sure ain't one noisy fuck in Chicago that's been on a public docket. DEA been in Culiacan for 25+yrs
