Do Twitter and other social media enable or impede another Socrates?
@DaveedGR Oh, my point was a little more subtle. I think those he depicted as troll-intellects were actually no less apt debaters/correct.

@emptywheel I'm definitely a partisan of Socrates, & anti-Sophist in outlook. There are plenty of sources outlining the Sophists' philosophy -
@DaveedGR I'll retreat to saying Thucydides might be the more interesting Twitter feed, to me. -
@emptywheel I think Hegel would be the most interesting philosopher to watch on Twitter, but I'm sure I'd unfollow him eventually. -
@DaveedGR Oh, I can't agree. And I say that as someone who had a genuine Hegelian (and Greek!) expert on diss committee to get out of system -
@emptywheel Which part can't you agree with? The interesting part, or the unfollow part? -
@DaveedGR Interesting part. Don't know how you could do Hegel in 140 characters. -
@emptywheel To be clear: I'm not a big Hegel fan. But two things: 1) He's hard to follow in part b/c of his focus on the nature of time.

@emptywheel And no doubt some dialogues were exaggerated, but the depiction of the Sophists' flaws is consistent with the historical record.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
