@emptywheel candidates are different but NSA was spying on the chancellor of Germany since ‘02 not necessarily her. I’m thinking Bolton? -
@marcambinder I guess I misunderstood (based on friend's reading of orig German) that 10 years in Q pertained to Merkel's party phone

@emptywheel@marcambinder NSA target list just says "GE Chancellor Merkel" and has no exact date, so what's the candidate status based upon? -
@electrospaces Which piece? Do you have link?@marcambinder -
@emptywheel@marcambinder This is said to be the entry from an NSA tasking database:http://www.bild.de/politik/inland/nsa/dieses-dokument-beweist-lauschangriff-gegen-kanzlerin-33145226.bild.html … -
@electrospaces I think it is unclear. But if tapping starting on that line in 2002 it was of politico Merkel, not Chancellor@marcambinder -
@emptywheel@electrospaces in general tapping candidates seems less objectionable than tapping elected ally heads of state somehow -
@marcambinder Assuming the monitors say the election that results if free and fair, yes.@electrospaces -
@emptywheel@marcambinder Would NSA have enough resources for examining al those intercepts? Or is it only searching text messages?
