@chessninja Alternately, NYT allowed Putin to look like a buffoon on its pages. @chrislhayes
@chessninja You prepared to argue the Saudis are inherently nicer people than Putin?
-
-
@emptywheel It would be also be worth criticizing if the NYT published a Saudi regime op-ed full of self-interested propaganda. And? -
@chessninja Plenty of people paid by tawdry foreign outsiders write op-eds. Putin was just transparent about it. -
@emptywheel Putin's role is clear. It's the NYT I'm taking issue with. Should they publish any dictator who can pump up page views? -
@chessninja If that dictator makes a compelling argument (ex CW claims) on issues that affect Americans? -
@emptywheel I'm sure many could, esp when propaganda is tuned to US audience by US consulting firm. Issue is platform giving credibility. -
@chessninja I'm not sure why you believe NYT affords someone magic credibility. Arguments are credible or not by themselves. -
@emptywheel In a utopian world maybe. Also they could be credible regardless of who spoke them! Neither case is true. Venue & origin matter.
