Interesting that NSA doesn't dispute WSJ story, just distorted media accounts of it: http://www.nsa.gov/public_info/_files/speeches_testimonies/2013_08_21_Joint_Statement_ODNI_NSA.pdf …

@KenDilanianLAT Had they released this "rebuttal" yesterday, you'd have forced confirmation 75% number is true.@brendansasso@LarryAkey1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@emptywheel I'm not sure it's true or even meaningful. I assume NSA has technical "access" to almost anything. At issue is legal compliance.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@emptywheel If they were given "access" to all US web traffic--only to scan for malware--the issue would be compliance, right?1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@emptywheel Right. And why do we seem to worry so much less about Verizon, which is selling location info in bulk, than NSA?3 replies 0 retweets 0 likes
@KenDilanianLAT Though I suspect they have more COMPETENT audits, bc some of unrelated scan activities carry real penalties.
