@mazinmelegy Why? Isn't there a huge gap between anger abt Muslim deaths and a desire to set up a Caliphate?
-
-
@emptywheel Well DEFINITELY not, if it's non-violent especially. I was under the impression you were talking about the Boston guy? -
@mazinmelegy I'm noting that there's big variance among reports whether motive anti-Afgh Iraq wars or Islamic extremism. -
@emptywheel Yeah we'll have to hear from him about it. If motive is opposition to death, then killing is a strange way to protest. -
@mazinmelegy Huh. Then why did we go to war in Iraq and Afghanistan bc of deaths on 9/11? -
@emptywheel Didn't go to Iraq bc of 9/11. Went to Afghanistan to destroy Taliban. But your point isn't lost on me. -
@mazinmelegy Right. THe sloppiness in reports on motive (admitting that Tamerlan prolly different than Dzh) obscure real motive. -
@emptywheel 100% with you on that. Wish we could take a more "wait-and-see" attitude to this.. oh wait it's the American media.

@emptywheel Because if you were, THAT is the type of Jihad (violent acts) we should be fighting. Assuming that was his intent. -
@emptywheel Assuming JIHAD* was his intent.
