@DaveedGR That's why I put my "scale" caveat. Just seems like even by scale this doesn't compare to other events. @dandrezner

@emptywheel@DaveedGR I imagine "no harm, no foul" doesn't enter ur thinking here? Can u point to egregious rights violation over shut-down? -
@catfitz At least $333M to shut down Boston for the day. Lots of hourly workers will lose a day's pay. Things like that. -
@emptywheel Sure, worker's pay for a day is an economic right. But you're beginning to stretch then. What is massive human rights violation? -
@catfitz Well, you introduced rights. For me it's an efficacy question. May not have added to safety, may lead to more terror. -
@emptywheel But it's about rights first of all because that's how the Miranda debate and everything else is introduced. -
@catfitz That doesn't follow logically in the least. They're totally different issues.

@emptywheel To be clear, I don't know where I come down. In many ways, shutting down a city amplifies the damage the attackers did. -
@DaveedGR Yeah, that's sort of my biggest concern too. If we shut down cities for terror but not equally damaging crime, it incents terror. -
@emptywheel I'm not too concerned that cities shld be shut down for equally damaging crimes. We should shut cities down infrequently, period -
@DaveedGR Yup. Agree there.

@emptywheel Such as the West, Texas blast, which was not "terrorism" because it was perpetrated by industry…@daveedgrThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@emptywheel But I would like to know more before reasoning through the issue--and I'm sure we'll know more about that decision soon.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@emptywheel I understand your argument. As I said, it's a fair debate. Premature b/c we don't know the PD's thinking, but worth having.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
