TINY benefit of climate change: Bok choy, spinach, kale still available at Farmer's Market today. Fat Al Gore eats his winter veggies.
@pastordan I'm sure it uses a ton of wood. But it's a very old multi cousin family farm, so I assume they're still clearing their land.

@emptywheel Not too much old growth left these days. Probably they have some woods they manage diligently. -
@pastordan Farm(s) were pretty close to where I lived in Holland. Still some woods there. But old growth there became furniture last century -
@emptywheel Had a friend from Ohio who told me you could tell what kind of trees used to be in area by looking at farmer's floorboards. -
@pastordan Probably true, but furniture industry here ate up a LOT of wood. -
@emptywheel For local consumption, or was it shipped around the nation? -
@pastordan Grand Rapids: Furniture capital of the nation, baybay! Well, at one time, anyway. -
@emptywheel Also true: the Amish basically own the production of church pews these days. -
@pastordan Interesting. American Seating here in GR made those pew-like seat-desk school desks. Now their stuff is made in China.
