Hindsight 20/20 and all that. But the time to force a GOP meltdown really was 2 years ago.

@MikeDrewWhat That same suffering--but exacerbated by time--is loaded to happen this time around, w/totally different framing on taxes. -
@emptywheel Don't follow. Don't know what you're saying should/would have happened, I guess. Dec '10 deal did prevent greater suffering. -
@MikeDrewWhat As would a deal today. Suffering appears to be included in either cliff.

@emptywheel Wishes being ponies and all .. I would have nuked the filibuster in January of '09 .. things would be much better now -
@PhilPerspective Bollocks. Nuking the filibuster does nothing so long as GOP thrives outside of all normative behavior. -
@emptywheel If you nuked the filibuster in back then .. when it only required 50 votes .. Mitch matters not .. and same with Holy Joe

@emptywheel Huh? The 2010 deal was a great result. -
@emptywheel Payroll tax cut, unemployment insurance, DADT, START and econ stimulus -
@speechboy71@emptywheel and reelection -
@xpostfactoid1
@emptywheel@speechboy71 Plus bigger Senate majority when many pundits were predicting GOP maj, narrower House minority
