US flagged ship and crew seized in Venezuela accused of arms trafficking- for 3 anti-piracy rifles on vessel. WTF?
@Galrahn I thought you only need US flagged ship to ship certain things for certain clients, & often people will avoid the cost otherwise.

@emptywheel operators will often use US flag if the equipment is US government owned. That may be situation here, unclear though. -
@Galrahn It really is remarkable no one has disclosed what cargo is. It should be available in the vessel tracking stuff for paid members. -
@emptywheel not anymore. Pirates were using that data, so it is no longer accessible or revealed. The cargo is a mystety. Who owns it? -
@Galrahn Oh, I hadn't realized it--it looks like you can join and pay thousands and get it. That wasn't that long ago, was it? -
@emptywheel Piracy has changed things, but it used to be information available under some services. -
@Galrahn Who/what is the broker--the guy who said there were 14, not 15, on the ship? Any idea? -
@emptywheel Customs broker? See this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Customs_broking … for more information.
