I may save this one: RT @GNHarben: Defense is not a national security welfare state. It is specifically noted in the Constitution.
@GNHarben So you're saying we shouldn't use R&D for common welfare but should for defen(c)e? Where's that in Constitution?

@emptywheel.Defense national responsibility. R&D needed, not all are our allies.Welfare/education primarily a state/local responsibility -
@GNHarben I'm reading Constitution. You, however, are selectively editing. Either contractors are great for Defense AND welfare, or neither. -
@emptywheel.Not sure contractors are necessarily great, but I would rather fly a Boeing plane than one assembled by the federal govt. -
@GNHarben So you advocate for higher taxes for all things mentioned in the Constitution? Things like US-built steel in bridges? -
@emptywheel. No, quality and cost should be balanced. Capital and investment is mobile. -
@GNHarben So for killing people cost is no option but the bridges that carry our children it is? -
@emptywheel. Killing people bit extreme.Protecting U.S. citizens is costly endeavor. Bldg bridges, etc, are regulated and put out for bid. -
@GNHarben You keep doing this double standard. Everything you say about bridges is true of bombs. Either both, or neither. - 1 more reply
