Positing a theory I hope someone w/very good CIA sources considers: Gina Haspel has both seriously ratcheted up ops against Russia and is backing Trump into a corner on Kashoggi. Doesn't mean I support her. But do suspect the woman who protected torture knows Deep State 101.

If not Gina, then perhaps Coats. Damn straight when somebodies in US IC tell the @washingtonpost about US IC intercepts of Saudis discussing taking Khashoggi down. Rock, meet hard place!

yeah, I don't *think* Coats could do that, but maybe Susan Gordon could.

Whoever it was in the US IC, they are laying down some heavy markers on the Saudis. Regardless of the oodles of baksheesh the Saudis spread around the Beltway, nobody really likes them. Friends they ain't got.

Sure but if I'm right that someone has ratcheted up ops against Russia, effectively, then if it's the same person it's a big story.

I think the Russia front likely has several USG ppl (who see the obvious & don't cower to King Idiot). Saudi leak: Could be any one person in CIA or NSA with access to such intercepts; why do you think it goes up all the way to CIA leadership?

Fwiw, I agree with Marcy that these are 𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 leaks, and likely by highly placed US IC persons. And by 𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡, I mean that the leaks have the backing of US IC leadership.

I value Marcy's & your opinion on this a lot more than my broad guesses...asking to broaden my understanding: what leads you to believe Khashoggi leak to WaPo had IC leadership blessings vs a lone IC actor pissed that USG betrayed a US resident/prominent US media columnist?

Speaking only for myself as an amateur observer and tea-leaf reader, I'm confident in my belief that US IC leadership fully backed this leak, but it is only a belief and not certain knowledge. IOW, YMMV. :-)

I was asking for your reasoning behind that assumption tho so I could better understand it...civilian tea-leaf readers aren't supposed to have classified info they can't disclose 😋

I know, but explaining my reasoning is hard with the limited characters of Twitter. Part of my belief is the way the leak was worded. It just didn't come across a whistleblower-style leak, but rather as an official pronouncement. As in "we know what you did & we're telling".

          1. Here's the best I can come up with short of a treatise: US IC leak to @washingtonpost that intercepts confirm Saudi intention to take Khashoggi down. US IC briefs US Senate. 22 Senators demand legally-required WH response on a Global Magnitsky Act sanctions determination.

          2. Add both of these things together and you get an official US IC effort putting the Saudis in the cross-hairs. They are not separate actions, but connected. Therefore the leak was official US IC action to let Saudis publicly know we have the evidence. I can't read it otherwise.
