In 2005, Judge Kavanaugh had a net worth of $91K, with $10K in the bank and $25K in credit card debt: https://fixthecourt.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Kavanaugh-2005-NW.pdf …. In Feb. 2006, property records show he took out a $980K mortgage to finance the purchase of a $1,225,000 home — indicating a down payment of $245,000. pic.twitter.com/0BImId8iCs

you're still supposed to pay taxes on the gift, if its over $20k or so (depending on year). And of course, Kavanaugh paid those taxes, right?

Did he lie about the source of the down payment funds? Did he provide a paper trail? Mortgage fraud is a bitch. Just ask Paul Manafort.

His father is wealthy. It could have been a gift from family, but he hasn’t acknowledged that and claimed the down payment came from other sources.

Why was he carrying so much credit card debt back then? $25k is quite a bit.

Why not, it would make sense if his income wasn’t enough to buy appliance/pay contractors/etc., and then he could wipe it out so quickly without violation of judicial disclosure rules with another bailout from the bank of daddy.

I'm talking about the debt at the time of the home purchase. You're probably right - he's just reckless with money because he knows he can get bailed out. But, damn, that's a lot to pay in finance charges.

Living a lie. Prep kid and Yalie keeping up appearances for his rich pals. Insecurity such as this is not encouraging for a justice. Means he can be manipulated.

Could be a lie, could just be the old school aristocratic path. Dad gets his hands dirty making money as a sordid lobbyist to pay for the sons noble life of politics and public service. That’s a tale as old as at least Rome.

I'm more concerned about how his baseball ticket debt disapeared so quickly. Parents help their kids all the time with debt, but it seems like he would just say that if it is the truth.https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/09/brett-kavanaugh-baseball-debt-democrats-hearing-missing.html …
