George Papadopolous -- Trump campaign volunteer who sparked Trump-Russia probe in July 2016 -- has been sentenced to just 14 days in jail. This does not bode well for the investigation, & hopes for collusion proof (as some of us warned right at the start):https://www.thenation.com/article/why-the-papadopoulos-plea-isnt-a-smoking-gun/ …

“works”? Anyway, so what’s next?
-
Right: Plead early. Pap did that, and his lawyers made sure everything else he said didn't deviate too much from his prior comments but can't be indicted if it proves wrong. That's how it "works."
-
Honestly how much you think this sort of situation applies to Flynn? Or is his "lying to the FBI" just a minor scratch compared to what they truly have him cooperating on?
-
Not sure. Mueller seems most happy abt Gates' cooperation. We'll learn more later this month.
-
Do you still think Pap might still be part of the confraud charge after the fact?
-
Yes, I think it's possible.

Any ideas on why mueller wanted the sentencing to happen today rather than any time earlier? Anything strategic in putting Pap in a cell for the next 2 weeks?
-
He won't be in a cell anytime soon. Maybe in time for the election. My guess is they moved to sentencing when they got what they otherwise would have had to squeeze out of Pap via other, more credible and/or central witnesses. https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/08/16/if-you-have-rick-gates-and-omarosa-you-dont-need-george-papadopoulos/ …
