as Maldives in Seleznev case

Yup. But which will piss Russia off more, Maldives cooperating w/o a treaty or Georgia?
-
well, I see "Joshua Samuel Aaron" in the indictment. He was arrested in Moscow by russian police and extradited to the US. Do you remember that story? Seems Russia simply doesn't care about this case and people from this group.
-
I do.
-
I don't see any problem with extradition from Georgia (if you aren't georgian citizen), see Article 30 https://matsne.gov.ge/ru/document/download/112594/3/en/pdf …

Thanks.

He’s not of Georgian nationality. That removes at least one hurdle. https://rm.coe.int/CoERMPublicCommonSearchServices/DisplayDCTMContent?documentId=09000016803ab7fa …
-
Sure but he's Russian. Which is going to piss off Putin even more.
-
Watch out for US military sales to Georgia announced at some point in the next 3 months... Total speculation, but there's got to be some kind of similar deal in the works.

He committed a crime here. I don't see the problem in prosecuting him for it.
-
Not my issue. I'm trying to understand how we managed an unusual extradition.

Just skimmed this, Georgi'a laws, dated 2010'13 on int'l legal coopertion. Seems to require treaty if citizen is from GA. If foreigner, cooperation depends - threat to GA, seriousness of crime, etc https://matsne.gov.ge/ru/document/download/112594/3/en/pdf …
-
*dated 2010 - 2013. No idea if changed since then

No treaty required for extradition. The US government may just have invoked Georgian domestic law. Many countries’ codes provide for extradition in such cases. The Tyurin case shows why: you want to get rid of some people.

Interesting 10 yr anniversary: “On 8 September, Sarkozy and Medvedev signed another agreement on a Russian pullback from Georgia.”
