This is false: Ohr did not "work on" the dossier. He did, however, try to prevent Russian organized crime. Maybe that's what bugs Rudy?https://twitter.com/RudyGiuliani/status/1036068045989371909 …

Sure 100% agreed. But Deripaska story raises an interesting issue. We have conflated all of the "Russian collusion" stuff , but shouldn't we distinguish a conspiracy charge to affect the results of 2016 election from the earlier business transgressions involving organised crime?
-
The former is directly tied to Trump's presidency and therefore impeachment could well be the correct remedy (if proven). But can a president be impeached on the basis of corrupt business practices that took place for years (decades) before this oligarch became president?
-
Fair question. Wouldn't there be related acts, like refusing to release tax returns, that would get at that?
-
I would think so. Why haven't the tax returns been subpoened? There's a lot about this investigation that is mystifying.
-
You don't know that they haven't (if Mueller even would need a subpoena).
-
Yes. And I do think you're right: Mueller would have to establish some sort of chain to the 2016 election (tax returns?) to use Trump's Russian business ties as potential grounds for impeachment. And even then would be interesting to see the basis of the charges.

After the GFC, senior bankers at HSBC acknowledged money laundering drug money for Mexican cartels. Nobody was jailed. So curious to know if DOJ (which has been so lax on prosecuting white collar crime for decades) would indict Trump on that basis.
-
HSBC paid their taxes.
