Before I start this thread, I repeat what I said when Mueller was appointed: he was a good choice bc he had credibility, trust at FBI, and was perceived as non-partisan.https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/25/us/politics/robert-mueller-russia-investigation.html …

Also, as far as I know, no biographer of Bob Mueller has ever explained this meeting with Cheney at the end of the hospital confrontation. https://www.emptywheel.net/070814-mueller-notes-hospital-conflict-2/ …pic.twitter.com/Lg4kn0sd8P

Given claims like this (FBI not only knew CIA was torturing, but knew they had exceeded authority given by DOJ), that's worth noting.pic.twitter.com/fRcAGhxKI8

The other aspect of Mueller's background that few have noted--but which is central to understanding RU investigation--is that FBI was relying on Felix Sater as informant WHILE he was part of Trump world. Why didn't the corruption get prosecuted at that time?

As to these comments about Mueller not testing a new theory? I think that undersells how much effort Mueller has put into a strategy that has side-effect of reinvigorating protections on Democracy, w/appellate staff of 4/17.pic.twitter.com/XyEGkiAQUN

And the notion that subpoenaing the president (by a guy whose FBI got Cheney in a quasi Grand Jury appearance?) would test limits of executive power? Maybe work on a more obvious theory.pic.twitter.com/qrOZiMcE9g

Having just credited Rudy G's tripe, NYT here -- on issue of final report -- doesn't (smartly). Add in the fact that Rosenstein keeps saying overandoverandover indictments will do the talking.pic.twitter.com/voZAAMqfhs

Anyway, I still think Mueller was the right choice for the job. My guess though -- and that's all this is -- is that this investigation is different for him.

Is the article to which you are referring "really" as flattering as you suggest? I don't agree. A "flattering" article would omit the facts in favor of hyperbole. I find nothing resembling hyperbole in this article.
-
You realize you responded to a tweet about an enormous fact omitted?
-
I need to go back and read more of your references. I admit my response was off the cuff.

It's pretty slanted. I don't see any evidence to back up any of the more personal jibes leveled in this article.
-
It is a bit slanted, but the core facts are correct.

As someone who was fairly political cognizant during this whole period, it's written with a large dose of hindsight; I'm also dubious of anyone who frames Comey's and Mueller's resistance toward reinstating "legal" torture as a) evidence of conspiracy and b) a bad thing.
-
But in all seriousness, thank you very much for linking to the story. I'm really not criticizing you for sharing it, more just pointing out that it's not quite as unbiased as all that.

Thank you. I'm rooting for Mueller in the Russia probe, but the Amerithrax investigation was fucked up and it bothers me that it's not mentioned more.

Indeed. As you say, it made sense to appoint him. But the mythic admiration is silly. The main thing that he learned as a combat leader was to keep your head down while bullets are flying at it. He knows the political perils for his office, which is why it doesn't leak. 1/

He's neither saint, nor genius, but competent enough to do the job at hand without getting roasted. That doesn't mean that everything he does will be right or admirable. He just knows he has to be careful & methodical in this roundup of crooks /2

If you take Mueller down, we lose all hope of saving our country and then fixing it. That's not a position I find favorable
