The part of San Diego County he represents is essentially Oklahoma. (No offense to Oklahoma except that your political beliefs are terrible.)

Oh, I used to live in Poway. I know (or used to know) the area.
-
Really. Does Hunter cover Poway? I went to high school (Grossmont) approximately 1,000 yards from his offices on the hill facing out toward El Cajon (and Santee and Lakeside).
-
No. But it's the inland empire.

The weather, or the epic SD Comic Cons

I couldn't hack the weather when I lived there. Had to come back east where there are real seasons.
-
Friends who moved there say the same thing.

Yeah, run with defense contractor money, then bully the Navy to use them. A Hunter family racket. Rep. Hunter probably thinks he's done nothing wrong because when his dad held he seat did much worse things all the time.
-
Some GOP voters still think the father is the son and that's why they keep voting for this creep. They don't even know the father retired.

Very little actionable checks on power. Goes back a long time.

Yup. Read “Under the Perfect Sun” by Mike Davis “Behind Gaslamp and the beaches hides a militarized metropolis, boasting the West Coast's most stratified economy and a tumultuous history of municipal corruption, virulent antiunionism, political repression, and racial injustice.”

One of my favorite stories is when the feds were closing in on Duke Cunningham, his wife was in their front yard talking to reporters when all of a sudden Duke drives by and for some unfathomable reason tosses a briefcase onto his own lawn and speeds away.
-
The briefcase snaps open and it's stuffed to the gills with cash. Reporters standing there, holding microphones. Completely perplexed. Duke's tires squeeling away into the distance.
-
This is amazing, but can you provide a link?
-
Sadly, I can't. I remember reading it somewhere and talking about it with my roommate at the time. I've since looked for that story online and I haven't been able to find it. Sorry. Bummer.
