Important point: people are rushing to collapse the SDNY Cohen investigation (which was referred by Rosenstein as not pertinent to Mueller) and Mueller investigation. Different kinds of danger for Trump from each, UNLESS and UNTIL they merge again.https://twitter.com/rgoodlaw/status/1033022255146651649 …

CNN's reporting supports the cautionary note: "The interview happened weeks ago under a deal negotiated by his attorney, another source familiar with the matter said. The interview was focused on Cohen and the payments. Weisselberg hasn't been called back, the source said."

One other reason to be disciplined about distinguishing between SDNY/Cohen/hush payment // SCO/Russia // NYS/Trump investigations until we're sure they've merged is bc some people will respond to one or another kind of graft/corruption/sleaze but not others.

But Weisselberg could be part of a third dangerous bucket — SDNY non-Cohen. We just don’t know yet.

Agree. But thus far there is only evidence of Wiesselberg on Cohen (and possible exposure in NYS). My point is people are assuming things w/o evidence.

Keep one point in mind: this immunity deal is going to make Trump so paranoid he won't be able to sleep.

There’s also the charity foundation investigation. That’s 3 separate inquiries.

So, are you reading Exective-2 as Weisselberg and Executive-1 as Don Jr.? If so, would that be how it comes back together? Leveraging the financial misdeeds to find out more about the Trump Tower meeting?

Even if they focused on the payments, wouldn't they have asked if Tr. Org. reported Cohen's reimbursements as payment for services for tax purposes? If so, wouldn't it not only be evidence (per WaPo) of #TrumpTaxFraud, but open door for further investigation of Tr. Org.'s taxes?

I think the main point is that Weisselberg has shown a willingness to give up Trump to save his own skin. He'll be used as needed on that basis.

Al Capone is a timely allegory for @realDonaldTrump and the SDNY. T’wasn’t his criminal empire doings that got to Big Al. Just that pesky AND UNFAIR income tax thing.

Also re: immunity, isn't it possible that SDNY gave only "use" immunity to defeat a 5th Amendment claim by Weisselberg? Reporting isn't clear. If so we're talking about a pretty limited scope.

People are seeing a deliberate strategy to lodge the part of the investigation that Trump decreed a "red line," his financial crimes and laundering of Russian mob and oligarch money into his projects, that would push him into firing Mueller in the SDNY where he can't do that.

Weisselberg altering Trump org docs including and pertaining to Trump org tax fraud seems extremely relevant to Mueller looking at Russian money going to Trump

Didn’t the Cohen investigation initially spawn from the Mueller investigation when possible illegal activity was found that was outside of Mueller’s mandate? I assume anything SDNY turns up that’s relevant to Russia will be shared with Mueller.

I believe Avenatti's case helped this to proceed as Mueller was already on it. See the cooperation agreement with Michael Cohen's partner, Friedman. He got a sweet deal for flipping earlier this year, just before Cohen's homes/offices searched. Story in @NYMag and the NYT.
