Reminder: There are 18 counts in Manafort indictment. It is quite possible that some of the charges are slam dunks, and others there is more doubt about.

Is there a scenario in where Manafort is charged and legally cannot be pardoned?

If he is prosecuted on state charges, he can only be pardoned by that state's governor.

I have a question. Because Manafort has not agreed to cooperate with Mueller and went to trial, does and acquittal or hung jury have any effect on the investigation? Other than Trump tweeting out more “Witch Hunt” stuff if Manafort is not convicted?

Even though Guiliani is out there on TV trying to make the point that this trial “has nothing to do with Trump.” So if they convict it doesn’t have anything to do with them, and if he’s acquitted it’s further proof of a witch hunt. I guess they are pretty predictable.

Agree. It’s hard to imagine that, given the overwhelming documentary evidence on the taxes alone, there could be a unanimous verdict of “not guilty” on all 18 counts. You sign a tax return and you own it. And jurors understand that they themselves pay the taxes evaded by others.

Served on a jury for a murder trial. We asked almost the exact same question about reasonable doubt. But it was only because 2 jurors were unsure on an underlying weapons charge. Had zero to do with the murder charge.

I was foreman of a jury where (due to one juror) we asked for definition of reasonable doubt. We convicted. I'm trying to hang onto hope here.

Not too worried about this. That the jury has gotten to the issue of guilt so quickly tells me they're weighing it seriously.

I think some of the bank fraud stuff will fall. Calk knew that Manafort was shady AF & personally approved the bad loan in exchanged for an appointment in the administration. Now we've not heard about Calk being tossed out on his ass & sued by shareholders is another question.

Excellent point. Since Calk knew the info was false, does that constitute fraud? Bribery sure, but maybe not fraud.

This hasn't been my experience. Jurors are responsible, generally speaking—they have conversations about "reasonable doubt" and typically some disagreement will arise, or confusion, between two (or more) jurors' definitions. So they ask the judge to settle it/erase any confusion. https://twitter.com/joshgerstein/status/1030204729249411075 …

The jury inquiry that seems, in my view, the most germain was this request:"The jury... asked.. if the list of exhibits prosecutors presented... could be amended to show which piece of evidence goes with which charge."Makes clear they are trying to approach this in a logical way.

I completely agree with you. In response the judge telling the jury to rely on their collective recollection. With 18 counts and lots of information provided during the trial I'd guess jurists are finding it a little difficult to remember which evidence supports each count

Right. Folks are focusing on the "meaning of reasonable doubt question", however the jury's request for the creation of a format within which to more easily see the evidence as a whole and also parse it out shows a conscious attempt to organize their decision making. Good sign.
