If the press didn't chase after this Brennan story like six year olds after a soccer ball, it would disincent Trump from making this a trend.

Anyway, it would be the most 2018 thing ever for resistance hero John Brennan to challenge losing his security clearance and in so doing finally start chipping away at Navy v Egan. If he did it I might even be nice to him for an afternoon.

Navy v. Egan, btw, is the SCOTUS precedent that says POTUS has fairly broad authorities to revoke someone's security clearance. It's what WHes use to claim they can classify or declassify at will. Was used to justify outing Valerie Plame and leak Iraq WMD to the press.

Brennan would prolly have a pretty good case to challenge Navy v. Egan (reminder, NAL). But if he succeeded, it would make it easier, say, for

Anyway, this is more interesting, IMO, bc it's the second very public humiliation of Dan Coats (after learning Trump wanted another Putin meeting while on stage at Aspen).

Any number of whistleblowers will tell you security clearances were already politicized. Or you could ask David Petraeus about it.

And you're assuming that Haspel and Coats would want to consult with Brennan. If they value their positions, they wouldn't ask for this order to be rescinded. You forget how insanely petty Trump is. He'd go rage crazy if someone asked him to forgo a payback

I might be out of line, but revoking security clearance for criticizing the President sounds a little authoritarian to me.
