BREAKING: Steny Hoyer is 79. But no one is talking about that.
-
-
Yes they do. Hatch & Grassley come to mind. Also, when you're the House leader of one party while POTUS is of the other party, that other party makes you the Poster Person of your party, with all sorts of (alleged) attributes attached.
-
And let's not overlook the fact that one of those implicitly calling for Pelosi to step aside is AOC (and I say "implicitly" b/c she's pointedly refused to say she'd vote for Pelosi).
-
Nobody is talking about Hoyer for Speaker. Nobody. Despite it being an open secret that Nancy and Steny loath each other, if she goes, he will lose his power too.
-
About Hoyer? Exactly. Which is my point. B/c show me the last time the #1 Dem stepped down & wasn't replaced by the #2. Whenever that last time was (if ever), it was more than 60 yrs ago. So IOW, it seems Hoyer has no shot b/c he's a
#male septuagenarian.

I’m on your side. Also the number three just got primaried by a 28 year old bartender.

As a nearly septuagenarian man, I can tell you this is not completely true.
-
In the private sector, no doubt. But in politics, I think the point is correct. I covered Strom Thurmond's run for Senate at age 94.
-
Different era. You don't hear calls for Grassley to step aside b/c of his age? And (b4 he announced his retirement) Hatch? As for Thurmond, that was a campaign issue, not a leadership issue; ie, if Pelosi's constituents don't care about her age, fine for them, but this is diff.
-
The fact that the two consensus front-runners for the 2020 Dem Primary are Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden would indicate this era really isn't that different.
-
Fair. FTR, Thurmond was 93 when he ran and won reelection in 1996

Fine. But ALL of the stale ass Dem leadership needs to go.

The failure of our political culture to appreciate the skills of women like Pelosi and Feinstein is very depressing.
-
I'd appreciate them if they didn't vote like Republicans. Both Pelosi and Feinstein approved a 717 billion military spending bill that the GOP and other Congress Dems backed.https://youtu.be/NqR5rSIW-h8
-
I'm not talking about the politics of their votes, but of their skills as political leaders over decades.

I believe you're right. FWIW, I personally hope that Hillary, Biden and Bernie all decide not to run in 2020. Let's keep it to folks who will be younger than 70 on January 20, 2021.
