Fwiw I don’t think the Mueller subpoena for Trump comes next. I think an indictment comes first. Suspect there are a few more pieces for that, but not many.

The target was Weinberger, but he'd been indicted in June. The inclusion of a quote implicating Bush close to the election was problematic. I have yet to see a think piece about DoJ norms suggesting Mueller can't act after the election. Just not close to Nov 2018 or Nov 2020.

And you've also seen some claims Mueller can't indict close to NOv 2018 that rely entirely on Rudy G's utter drivel and are now treating it as credible. It's not.

Two different issues. Can Mueller indict at all? Untested, controversial and contrary to OLC positions on Nixon, Clinton. As to "close to an election", I offered TIME, Lawfare, can easily find many more. I may as well add a bit on "Giuliani's drivel". This Savage piece from 2017 covers the waterfront. (Don't stop reading at the headline. The new memo differs from two OLCs) https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/22/us/politics/can-president-be-indicted-kenneth-starr-memo.html …pic.twitter.com/E9qzLOJ1vN
