Why does WMATA tell me “this is a 7000 series train” so much? Does Lockheed provide it?

It has to do with the visually impaired - the gaps between train cars are similar to doors if you can’t see well

This is an accessibility issue for people with low vision. there is a design flaw in the train which leads to people falling between the cars, so WMATA announces that it is a 7000 series. the issue is specific to those cars.

Read something recently about how it's an alert to visually-impaired folks because those trains have worse protection of gaps between cars (which they could fall into if they thought were open doors).

I swear someone says something about it every ride. Ok, they’re tourists or here for work, we commuters keep our heads down and avoid eye contact. Please don’t talk to us and stop people puddling at the ends of escalators people! Stop!

I’m almost certain that recording is new, too. I don’t remember hearing it until a few weeks ago. Baffling.
