So Putin's play was: -Have a small amount of kompromat. -Blackmail an idiot into illegally conspiring with you. -Use their participation as kompromat. -Repeat. It's the Putin Parlay.

-
No. Forget the goddamned pee tape.
-
Not the pee tape. Financial stuff.
-
Forget the goddamned financial stuff. yes, RU probably could BK Trump Org, but that's not what this is about.
-
I think you might have to write another post spelling out (& hope some of it will seep through to the 'Mueller experts') on why ConFraudUS blackmail is much more important than fin crimes & how Putin focused on establishing Trump ConFraudUS blackmail at various steps.

I agree with much of this. Assuming Veselnitskaya was acting at the behest of the Kremlin, she surely would have taped the meeting with DJTJ. I think it's more likely than not that the Russians have something compromising from that or another similar call/meeting.
-
But Trump's strange behavior wrt Russia predates that meeting, so it doesn't explain everything odd that's going on.

Is your theory really that Putin has kompromat in this series of events? 1. DNC emails dumped 2. Trump, genius, jokes that it's a pity they can't find HRC's missing 2013 Benghazi omg emails 3. 2nd HRC-specific phishing occurs and is unsuccessful. What receipts would that leave?pic.twitter.com/p7EbWKTosk
-
Isn't the defining characteristic of kompromat that you have something at the end to produce? That being a prerequisite for a story about how it came about, via nefarious acts. Why would you think that works if you don't have the product.
-
Actually no. The defining trait of компромат is that the mark *BELIEVES* that you have damaging materia. If they don’t know exactly what that entails, in many ways this is even more powerful. For example, in Soviet days the KGB would use prostitutes with or without recoding it.
-
Just the idea that the KGB has photograhs or recordings was enough to scare people into being manipulated. In fact, the KGB often used completely fabricated photos or recordings knowing that it would be enough to influence the mark.
-
But regardless, it is 100 obvious that the “joke” was something that Candidate Trump was asked to do as a way of communicating agreement to accepting assistance. The “tell” is the way he stumbled on “greatly rewarded..... .... BY OUR PRESS”
-
And the biggest point of all, as
@emptywheel so astutely observes, is that President Trump knows Putin has the goods on him, period, which is why he is acting so recklessly in placating Putin. -
That may be the case but it's not in relation to the threat of exposing his part in a hack that [a] everyone on earth already saw him say, and [b] didn't happen. It doesn't work dude.
-
If (the hack) “didn’t happen”, how exactly do you explain the airtight coordination between the WikiLeaks releases and the Trump campaigns major talking point of each campaign day? I posit that the go phrase was supposed to be “Russia if you are listening” and Putin has proof.

So Trump called for the action, and they executed the action, and that’s the smoking gun? It looks dirty as sin, the worst evidence yet. But we need 1 more piece. Somebody from team Trump must contact team Putin and say: He’s going to make a speech, when he says X it means go.
-
But those 164 calls for Wikileaks, I love Wikileaks... There was a form of communication established 6/9/16? Maybe they agreed to certain public proclamations as the signal? TBH I was shocked when US Marshals did not pull him off stage when he said: Russia if you’re listening...

Concur, likewise let us not forget that within hours of his inauguration, the Trump Administration put into motion at State to report how sanctions could be lifted.
