Does Judge Ellis know that poor people have a much harder time cheating on their taxes? The ostrich jacket is part of the gig.

If #Manafort hadn't gotten involved with the @realDonaldTrump campaign, would any agency be looking at this taxes? How many others like him get away with massive tax evasion while IRS hassles normal people over a few hundred bucks?

Dunno. I just had to spend 3 weeks proving I had paid taxes on a paltry sum IRS miscalculated.

I can get his argument on the term 'oligarch' being loaded, but this is a tax fraud case in large part and Manafort used shell co's and fake invoices to move a lot of money into the US by way of lavish purchases.

Yep. Ellis is inserting himself into the trial much more that the "move alongs". If said in front of jury, it is an improper influence (I briefed that issue while I was a law clerk on the Mississippi SCT). Ellis is out of bounds.

Judges can have an immense impact on a trial. Defended a city council man in a southern city. A black man. First trial - 4 blacks on jury. We hung a federal jury. Second trial judge changed jury pool pull and only 2 black in pool, both at end. No blacks on jury. Conviction.

Somebody better call him out on this. He keeps pulling the strawman "being rich isn't a crime" , but being rich because you saved up close to $20-$30 MILLION by not paying any Federal or State taxes IS A CRIME! Manafort is rich because he engaged in illegal activities!

is an ostrich jacket a business expense? if not, how does it fit into a tax cheating strategy? Also, for those agog at his house in the Hamptons: look about the Hamptons in an ortho of your choice - e.g. google maps. His house is about average.

I don't even try to cheat, nor would I. I wish I had more control over where my tax payments went, but I like the idea of supporting my fellow countrymen in their time of need.
