It seems to me like the senator's proposal to reform Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act would be the most explosive proposal were it to gain traction.

Given that SESTA/FOSTA is already killing sex workers, maybe they need to rethink that generally.
-
Do you have any links/stories/people you recommend reading regarding SESTA/FOSTA? It's being hailed by some as stopping/slowing down trafficking, but I'm skeptical of that. Thanks.
-
I'd follow
@MsMaggieMayhem for that. She says murders of sex workers have gone up since it was passed. bc more workers have to work the street, w/o ability to vet clients. -
I appreciate the reply, that was my suspicion. Thank you.

There has been a huge spike in the number of people who are now forced to work outdoors (outreach workers reporting 4-8x as many folks). Sadly, there are already reports of violence and a couple homicides.
-
That's what I was worried of when I heard about that bill passing. It seems like it creates a new danger for women without actually solving any sort of trafficking/abuse going on.
-
Absolutely. A lot of community message boards were also lost and other social media websites are putting increased scrutiny, shadow bans, and outright bans on anyone engaging in erotic behavior. Craigslist personals are gone, for example.

Short of declaring major social media outlets as utilities, this is as strong a collection of policy shifts to improve our lives, safety, and privacy as we are likely to see. Especially lifting tort immunity.
