Two of the special counsel lawyers were appellate specialists (Jed and the renowned Dreeben) and one was a Russia specialist (Prelogar). Other two not identified by observers as far as I've been able to find.

Yeah, I assumed Dreeben was one of the five. Do you have a link for where his presence was noted?

Just speculating, but Davis has some financial savvy. May have links to her friend Stone and his associate Miller re: money laundering. Issues could cut across multiple lanes of Mueller investigation, therefore multiple attorneys / prosecutors present.
-
That makes a lot of sense.

This is some well-funded conservative legal group that took this case and is trying to mount a legal challenge to Mueller's jurisdiction. Looks like Mueller wants to send a message to these guys.pic.twitter.com/SuE42viVOl
-
The outfit in question is the National Legal and Policy Center, a Scaife funded 501(c)(3).
-
That Scaife pot spent itself out a few years back, didn't it? The Olin Foundation ran out in 2005. Who is funding this group now?
-
Kochs, maybe? They were loosely affiliated with the ALEC gang, which is a Koch project. But I don't know much more than that.
-
Scaife funded the creation of ALEC, but like I said; he was no engineer.
-
The interlocking org charts of these groups would be instructive. Too bad they've done such a good job of burying those operational details. At any rate, the org that started this discussion is fighting tooth and nail to stop Mueller.

This needs an explainer
-
Per others above, best guess is that it's a connection to Roger Stone.
-
But why 5 lawyers? Seems important.
-
Never forget that Stone was in touch with Assange and Guccifer so this could be a pretty big deal.

Not to jump the gun or anything, but is there anything anyone will be able to do when Trump eventually fires Mueller? Was reading this today and it was pretty depressing:https://www.politico.com/story/2018/07/20/house-dems-plan-longshot-gambit-to-protect-mueller-734947 …
-
Trump firing Mueller is the most obvious thing ever. Mueller had to have started planning for this literally the first week. Still scary though.
-
Well, he kinda specialises in obvious. He has the luxury of doing pretty much as he likes because his base is solid and approval ratings steady. Doesn't get much more obvious that inviting Putin to the White House, does it? What can Mueller do if he's fired? What can anyone do?
-
Confident Mueller has a plan, may include banked indictments. The fact that SDNY, DC, EDVA, WDPA, and other U.S. Attorneys are involved makes Mueller less of a single point of failure.
-
I hope you're right. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DiZGYmHW4AA1N2Q.jpg …
