Folks: It is possible to believe (as I do) that people very close to Trump will be accused of some very ugly crimes. AND Believe that it violates the spirit of our Constitution to use the word "traitor" to describe Rand Paul's stupid comments.

As to Republicans who call the investigation a witch hunt? Honestly, the reporting on the Mueller probe has been shitty enough about key issues that I'm not surprised.

To little to late marcy, you supported and encouraged these fascists, we will reap what you sowed, an ocean of tears and blood. I hope you feel proud of your actions.
-
Which fascists did I support, pray tell?

Russian Intelligence attacked our electoral process. They are probably going to do it again. Trump and Republicans in Congress either deny the threat completely or refuse to do anything about it. Trump proposed forming a cyberwarfare unit WITH Putin. What would you call that?

#1 seems plausibly applicable to me. Obviously not #2. “Definition of traitor 1 : one who betrays another’s trust or is false to an obligation or duty 2 : one who commits treason”https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/traitor …
-
You're replying to a discussion of legal terms by referring to the dictionary. Don't do that.
-
The only definition that is applicable in this case is the one in Article III, Section 3 of the US Constitution: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."
-
Do you believe that Rand Paul gave "aid and comfort" to the enemy?

Not least because you want it to have full impact if you do need to use it.

I differentiate between “traitor” and “treason.” I consider traitor to be a much looser, more slang-type term. Treason is a very specific crime w/ narrow legal meaning that doesn’t apply.
-
That's my take on those two terms as well. While I've used the term "treason weasels" more than I should have, it's mostly been in jest. I think ppl in power like Rand Paul are betraying our country to an extent when they make public comments like he did. Seems traitorish to me.
-
I finally began using traitor about a month ago. It just finally became deserved. And I don’t think “treason weasel” counts.

It is no longer "cheap" to apply it to Trump.

Trusting another hostile country over your own seems pretty treasonous to me. If it doesn’t to you, then you might want to justify your allegiance

Question: what do you call it if a political party knows the president is a traitor and does nothing?
