For fuck sake people. Can we stop waggling this word so loosely?https://twitter.com/DavidCornDC/status/1018486304349343744 …

Yes we do. But “Spying” and the collection of intelligence, i.e., the stealing of secrets, is not the same as active measures to influence or subvert an election.
-
You're telling me the US never intervenes in elections? I'll let several generations of Persians know.
-
There it is. We deserve it, so shut up.
-
Where did I tell anyone to shut up? I asked people to stop labeling that observation as treason.
-
Where did I label anything treason?
-
Again, this thread started with me asking people to stop calling Paul's comments treason.
-
The "witch hunt" comment removes any doubt about Paul's intent. I don't see how it's legit to treat the statements like they're unrelated. "We all do it" so end the investigation looks like aid and comfort to me.

I hate sports metaphors in politics, but Paul’s argument is kind of like a coach not fielding a defense on the grounds that both teams are trying to score points on one another.
-
It's better described as someone not fielding an offense. He says he wants to protect elections. Just not investigate the last one.
-
Fair. In either case it’s not an argument that smacks of sincerity or good faith, to say nothing of common sense.

Spying is one thing, how else did we get detailed info, but active measures to advantage one candidate, perhaps gather kompromat and infiltrate social media is another
-
I'm not excusing the active measures. But it is absolutely true we engage in same.
-
Perhaps, but not with the same consequences
-
The consequence being deciding elections? Engaging in regime change? Really?
-
So far any regime change attempts have been disastrous just as it is here. Much grander design that worked, perhaps with help from the inside

Do any Russian leaders repeat American CIA talking points word for word like Rand Paul just did with the FSB?
-
Well, Putin claims Navalny does.

Yes, we spy on the Russians too. And if a Russian aided a US spy in any way he'd be a......? Traitor is the correct answer.
-
Technically he'd be a spy, an asset. But Paul is not doing that, which is why calling him a traitor is dumb.
