For those asking how to refer to Paul, this thread is worthwhile. It actually IS really important to remember that we spy on Russia just like they spy on us.https://twitter.com/drfarls/status/1018477611180331008 …

Trump told CBS news today that the European Union was more of a foe than Russia.
-
Call Trump whatever you want. But Corn was calling Paul a traitor, not Trump. There's a great deal of information suggesting Trump did conspire with Russia. I'm aware of none showing Rand Paul did.
-
Paul was on TV delivering Russia Today talking points this morning. Batting for the other team is generally considered at least traitorous if not actually treasonous.
-
It's an RT talking point that we should protect our elections?
-
He countered the Russian election interference news with the classic Putin whataboutism: "what about Hillary interfering in tve Kremlin elections in 2011." A well-known textbook Kremlin talking point.
-
Also critically important for people to understand that Putin believes that if they want to be even marginally intelligent on this stuff.
-
Don’t need to be Putin’s hype man to get that point across. If I was an American patriotic Senator I’d just say “Putin believes X.” He’s providing comfort to the enemy. I’m sure Putin was very happy with Paul’s performance.
-
Not only that, we all know he’d be singing a different tune if Russia aided the Dems, HRC was POTUS and there was evidence her entire family conspired to steal the WH. Maybe he’s not Russia & GOP over country but he’s definitely GOP over country and that seems traitorous too.

Encouraging a foreign power to undermine our democracy. Even without the active collusion part, what’s an appropriate word then?
-
So, to be fair, I guess Corn is referring to Rand Paul, not Trump. Paul says we should defend the electoral system, but calls the investigation a witch hunt. Abetting Trump in undermining Mueller’s revealing the attack still gets pretty close to the line, doesn’t it?
-
No. And the press is doing a piss poor job of clarifying how much of the Mueller investigation doesn't involve the targeted of Carter Page under FISA. Until they do better GOPers are going to believe that's what it's about.
-
Thanks for reply. Appreciate all your work to unpack things and fair to ask press to do heavy lifting. Very helpful. But very few operate there. I think GOPers are operating in PR space, not facts, and Corn is engaging them on that plane. Just calling out hypocrisy.

You are wrong to be so strident here. Mueller just released an indictment with the military affiliations of Russian hackers made plain. Do you really have legal expertise at the SCOTUS level to foresee no future facts or finding that treason and traitor are fitting labels?
-
Against Rand Paul?
-
Your tweet referenced the word generally.
-
No. It referenced Corn calling Paul a traitor. They may well be time for using that word. Paul is not it.
-
He sure quacks like one

So show the restraint the GOP is so well-known for with regard to the opposition party? Delete this.

If we're fighting for law and order in the US, we must adhere to the principle that we don't make accusations of criminal wrongdoing when there is not a shred of evidence to support them.
-
Yeah, I don't think David is making a legal argument there or that his tone in the tweet is the death knell for law and order. And I'm not fighting for order anyway. I care about justice.
-
This is seriously annoying, emptywheel. If you're worried about law & order, policing Rand Paul's words would be a better use of your time, because what he's doing and saying is actively eroding it.
