Why is this a story? Is there something odd about investigators finding something out from the press? Has no one seen "All the President's Men"?

I seem to recall reading that the Mueller team didn't know about the Trump tower meeting until the Times reported it. Did I dream that?
-
It makes sense. At that stage, Mueller was just piggybacking on Congressional document requests. Full story of how Don Jr's emails leaked is not yet known. But whether the story came from Congress or elsewhere (Akhmetshin was trying to get it out), Mueller wouldn't yet have email

All the while, scumbag
@SaraCarterDC was writing bogus stories, fed to@devinnunes, aired on@seanhannity. The incestuous cycle continues. The Carter story was the pretext for this claim of leaks. -
Please don't call her a scum bag. She's a generally ill-informed reporter transcribing what she gets leaked. But that doesn't necessarily make her a scum bag.
-
Sigh, you’re right. I apologize. But let’s also not pretend that being ill-informed is not coupled with intentional malice.

Investigators often rely on media articles and public records as leads on investigations. This is a not worth mentioning in a story.
