Serious question: would abolishing ICE be like smashing something with a hammer (like GOP on the ACA), when a scalpel (e.g. identify the specific problems and fix) might be better? I confess I don't know much about ICE.

You should definitely read up on it then. It was one of those dumb post 9-11 decisions like monitoring your sudfed intake, making you take off your shoes in airports and going to war with Iraq.
-
Pre-9/11 INS wasn't so hot either. When DHS formed, INS moved over fr DOJ and was divided, basically, in two parts - one doing enforcement (ICE) and one doing citizenship & residence applications (USCIS). That's getting knocked now but it deconflicted what employees had to do.
-
CBP is actually the agency most people are angry with right now, though. It's part of DHS, but not part of ICE.
-
Yes... but for a LONG time people have seen the scary extrajudicial nature of ICE and its wield for authoritarianism. CBP, like other law enforcement, should be reigned in. All of the agencies you mentioned should get the "scalpel" treatment as mentioned above.

Explains so much. It's a misread. It's not immigrant crime, it's immigration official crime. That makes so much more sense.

I'll say one thing about Sessions: dude will support prosecuting anyone. A stark change from "too big to jail."
