Reminder: The IG Report (and Public Evidence) Shows that Peter Strzok Lost the Argument to Investigate Trump Aggressively https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/06/16/peter-strzoks-changed-viewpoint-from-may-and-july-2017/ …
Hi. He didn't say, "likely due to bias." But that's besides the point. What Strzok was doing was covert, not using anywhere NEAR the methods that a normal investigation would. They didn't start using most of those techniques until March.

sorry you right, IG said he did not have confidence the decision "was free from bias”. On the covert, is that not required by DOJ policy regarding investigations close to election?
-
If it were required, then FBI's decision to pursue the Weiner laptop was an outright violation. Strzok had lost the battle to go overt w/Trump, but was forced to do so w/Hillary.
-
Pretty sure the policy exists, they just didnt follow it with Weiner. On Russia, 1. because they didnt follow policy in Wiener, doesnt mean they should not follow policy here 2. Russia was counter intel, aren't they meant to be covert all the time in contrast to criminal?

Hillary was CI too. You seem to have read too much Andy McCarthy abt what a CI investigation is. MOreover, Manafort was not--at least not exclusively--CI. Yes, the exception was the Weiner emails. Therefore, no credible person can claim this worked to hurt Trump.
-
haha yeah I do read a lot of Andy, but also you! I try get as much facts as I can from both “sides” :) Thanks for all the responses you give!
-
I think Andy has made a big straw man out of CI investigations, all while pretending that common tools in them (eg FISA orders) are common.
-
would love to see you and Andy do a podcast / debate together :)
-
Sure. I think
@steve_vladeck and he were going to do one. I do recommend people read McCarthy. But I also think he has engaged in bad faith more often of late.
