Michael Horowitz and Christopher Wray are about to testify before OGR and HJC. Today's hearing will be FAR more contentious than yesterday's. I'm thinking of it as "The Fight for Trey Gowdy's Soul."

Gowdy had been very supportive of Mueller's inquiry up until IG Report released. But that changed Friday and Sunday, when Gowdy said any prosecutions pursuant to the investigation would be improper (in spite of the evidence that Strzok lost his bid to investigate aggressively)

Nadler interrupted w/a comment abt the family separations. Then protestors started chanting, got kicked out.

Correcting myself: No Wray today, just Horowitz. Back to Fight for Trey Gowdy's soul: GOP put a deadline of tomorrow on this new extortion demand.

Remember, too, that Goodlatte made a big show of suggesting that Peter Strzok refused to show up. Then Strzok's lawyer released a letter showing he had offered to w/o subpoena. Goodlatte has gone silent since.

Gowdy now making a big stink abt Comey, as if his interventions didn't hurt Clinton.

Gowdy comparing Comey not pushing for special counsel in Hillary investigation but doing so in the Trump one.

Gowdy calls Comey "sanctimonious." Can't say I disagree with him.

There's an irony of the Hillary investigation: Had 1) Hillary not been the sole target or 2) Congress referred false statements rather than leaking classified info, the outcome would have been different.

Hoping
@matthewamiller is watching this hearing bc it's precisely the kind of shitshow he loves.Show this thread -
Cummings notes that OGR has not issued a single subpoena to investigate Trump. Raises family separation. Should raise Pruitt, since Gowdy has agreed that's an egregious problem (and since Trump is keeping Pruitt to replace Sessions with).

Cummings now yelling about family separations. "What country is this?" "This was a policy implemented and executed by Donald Trump."

Goodlatte immediately says this is about two investigations (Hillary's email and Ru). Except we won't be able to talk about RU (and none of the people conducting RU investigation invited).

Goodlatte now complaining that Hillary got special treatment. She did, on her interview!! But of course, Trump WON'T DO an interview.

28 minutes in and we're still 10 minutes away from hearing Horowitz.

Goodlatte, the head of the House Judiciary Committee, now bitching about prosecutorial discretion.

Nadler starts by describing what the report does not do (such as exonerating Trump on Russia).

Nadler: Every decision criticized inured to benefit of Trump.

Nadler reminds that "the President's campaign manager is in jail."

Beginning to worry that Michael Horowitz is going to have to break Hillary's record for an 11 hour committee appearance. 37 minutes in and we haven't heard from him yet.

Nadler notes that House Republicans have done nothing to defend the next election, also raises ACA and family separation. Says if House cared abt classified info they'd do something abt Trump leaking Israel info, Trump & CLASS docs at Mar-a-Lago.

BREAKING! 40 minutes in Horowitz utters his first word, "I do," in being sworn in.

Gowdy saying that most of Page's offending comments were before Clinton investigation over. Except he's talking about an August exchange.

Gowdy missing three details: 1) Strzok is the guy who said Mike Flynn showed no physical sign of deceit 2) He wasn't sure there was a three there 3) He lost fight to investigate Trump aggressively during campaign

Remember what they're comparing Hillary's server to wrt Alberto Gonzales: Gonzales kept basically a CYA file covering both the torture program and the Stellar Wind program at his home.

Horowitz reminds that Comey had a policy of no comment on both Russian and Clinton Foundation investigations.

Now Cummings doing the posturing. "My copy must be missing a few pages. Did your report focus on Russian investigation?"
