I left the house 1.5 hours ago and Manafort was facing charges that would put him in prison for life. I'm back now and Manafort is facing charges that would put him in prison for life. There's a lot of hot air being generated over what has happened in last 1.5 hours.

IIRC, Manafort worked really hard to stay out of jail, and had a lot of trouble coming up with untainted assets he could use for bail. And now he's going to jail anyway, and Mueller has asked the court to seize a bunch of his assets. It's just that much more pressure to flip.

I get this isn't a major move, but doesn't the establishment of a relationship between Manafort and Kilimnik (formerly GRU) carry weight? No, Kilimnik isn't going to find himself subjected to US justice. What we do have is another 2 degrees of separation between Trump & RU Intel

As far as I can tell, the main impact is that it significantly reduces the odds that Manafort is sleeping in his own bed eight days from now. Which isn't nothing.

To...an extent. Kilimnik is going to prove very relevant in the next round, establishing him as criminally involved in 2018 ... massively reduces deniability on 2016.

Law Twitter is telling me that this means the likelihood that Manafort is jailed w/o bail is much higher now, which is big news to people who long for Manafort's suffering.

They’re just squeezing Manafort right now it seems. One more person who could flip, however unlikely. Also let him think about a deal from a jail cell rather than his mansion.
-
I’m not so sure he won’t flip. I didn’t think so until recently but he’s really got his nuts in a vice now. Even if he gets a pardon he won’t get his seized assets back.
-
I have wondered from time to time whether Mueller wants him to flip. He may want a trial to reveal some testimony. And to send a message with a conviction and long sentence.
-
True, that’s a good point

And pundits on retainer cost money either way - might as well run em out to batters box and get some swings out of em. I guess.
