Golly. Why would Facebook think to build a data center in a desert just across the freeway from the NSA data center? 🤔https://twitter.com/sweis/status/1001870099635032066 …

@empiricalerror said Latency. I'm wondering if they're also sharing 1) the same linguists 2) the same facial recognition research.https://twitter.com/empiricalerror/status/1001953596689272832 …

I hate to defend facebook, but it makes economic sense. The NSA already paid to run electricity and fiber out to the middle of nowhere and they're taking advantage of the cheap land and high bandwidth.

NSA is not technically in middle of nowhere. It's between two somewheres: SLC (livable even for non-Mormons) and Provo (full of compliant linguists), on the same side of the freeway. I haven't been to UT in years, but this is on the other side of the freeway, more nowheresish

Lots of growth in this part of Utah. Both NSA and proposed building site for Facebook are West if I-15 freeway and Utah Lake.pic.twitter.com/fi3oAW72wj

Hangliding area is being taken over by housing and concrete processing operations. It’s just East of NSA and I-15. It’s amazing how much it has changed.

Like I said, I haven't been for years. Prolly would hate it now. Hated Denver on a recent visit, on account of the traffic. Well. Not hate. Just ... unhappy.

Anyone else hear the reports over the years of CIA/NSA having meetings with different FB higher ups along with Zuckerberg. What that POS did to Winlkevoss twins and worse, how he screwed his bestfriend out of FB.FB is a poison.

The price is rarely considered, only the cost is important.
