A massive legal and PR effort has been launched to kill offshore wind in America, arguing the renewable technology hurts the environment.
Who's behind it? A climate denial group, heavily funded by the fossil fuel industry.

The group claiming offshore wind hurts the environment is the Texas Public Policy Foundation.
TPPF's largest known donor is fossil fuel billionaire Charles Koch.
Chevron, Exxon, ConoccoPhillips are also donors.

TPPF has a long history of climate denial and extreme anti-environment rhetoric.
Its attorney once wrote an anti-Endangered Species Act op-ed containing this quote:
"We don’t need to save endangered species' because 'extinction is part of evolution."

That SAME attorney is now arguing in court that all U.S. offshore wind development should be killed because it harms endangered species.
So what is going on here??

TPPF doesn’t actually care about protecting endangered species. It cares about protecting the oil and gas industry.
By disguising their motive as pro-environment, TPPF is engaging in a form of disinformation.
It's called “woke-washing.”

Woke-washing occurs when individuals or organizations use progressive or “woke” language to trick people into supporting conservative outcomes.
Ex: the fake climate group that tried to get progressives to vote against the IRA

What makes woke-washing so difficult to combat is that in most cases, there ARE problems that deserve criticism.
The IRA *wasn't* strong enough on climate.
Offshore wind *does* pose threats to endangered species.

The difference is that where progressives push to solve or limit those problems, conservative woke-washers disingenuously use them to entirely discredit solutions.

As the clean energy revolution ramps up, fossil fuel interests are going to do everything in their power to turn public opinion against it, using every page in the disinformation playbook

Great expose' on TPPF, Emily! BTW, CCL is pushing to get the RISEE Act included in lame duck action. It would incentivize states to site offshore wind by sharing federal revenue with them. The money would help protect coastal communities from #ClimateChange.
