My recent article on the dehumanisation of research & insight (& routes to recover the lost humanity). Described as a "cracking read - fascinating and challenging stuff" by Martin Weigel & as "far far far too long" by someone else. Both views have merit.

A great thread on the perils of measuring an “objective” reality. And VAR.

Generally, and throughout the corporate world particularly, “objective measures” do not improve upon or repair the subjectivity, the situated sense-making, the messy detail of interpretation. They simply obscure it. VAR has helped highlight this reality! via

Bold prediction: SF & Fine Gael forming a ‘national interest’ Brexit government could allow them to save face + sideline FF. Obviously, it’s not a key issue for the electorate but it is for both parties - see image below based on tweets before the election was called:

One of the interesting things about this stuff is seeing how the connotationsof certain identities or categorizations change over time. “Nationalist” seems to be an example of this.

The Language of Strategy and the Problem with Bullet Lists... I was looking up something in The Cognitive Style of PowerPoint and found a bit about this 1998 article:

Exploring the categories we use to describe ourselves in talk (identity-in-use), rather than the demographic categories that are normally used, seems like an interesting basis to begin qualitative analyses of political attitudes + behaviour. I'll post emoji use later!

These terms describe + disavow attachments to particular ideas, values or groups. Above all, they are the terms we consider 'relevant' to share with the world. It's interesting to consider how relative differences in frequency of some descriptions could be interpreted.

I looked at some of the terms that twitter followers of political parties involved in use to describe themselves. Given the constraints of the twitter ‘bio’, we have to prioritise what terms we use to identify ourselves, to denote affiliation and disaffiliation.

Innovation around de-implementation in the public service would really be of considerable benefit. Understanding the organisational context and culture in which any innovation takes place would also be useful. Innovation as “value creation” is a pretty distinct framing!!!

Watching the world from a desk is underrated. One of the shortcomings of "get out + talk to real people" arguments is they obscure how organisational context + culture shape our priorities in professional work. And so will shape what we take from "talking to real people" too.

In addition to the replication crisis, we have a generalization crisis (per the paper of which discussed). Probably this is as pervasive across sciences, and as misleading, as "most published findings are false."
