Probably a point to be made about new MSPs being expected to live, travel, dress, spend money like an MSP for a month before they receive a salary...
Hello, unplanned overdraft...
Will be asking in induction tomorrow if advances are an option.

AOC already raised this question when she was elected to Washington, politcs has been seen as the game were rich people go to retire. Being a political candidate and starting as an elected member is expensive, there should be procedures to guarantee easier access to our parliament

It’s a fair point , and I trust you are only noting it, but I’m not sympathetic if it’s only a concern/consideration for those taking a role in parliament? It exactly what nearly every job seeker faces to going into full time employment at any employer who pays monthly.
-
It is, but it is a concern that people who are very able to jump into the role of an MSP without money worries are less likely to have personally experienced. Meaning we don't get legislators who understand. So, is it not better to challenge assumptions?

It sounds like a recipe for (potential) increased risk of corruption, be careful about who you take a loan from! The parliament needs a system in place to allow the first pay immediately but paid back over the course of the first year?
-
That's what I'm saying, yep. Not taking the loans though I appreciated the offers.

Absolutely staggering you think working class folk don't stand for parliament because they might have to wait a month before there first pay packet. How much will you get paid at the end of May, £6k? Ridiculously out of touch. Staggering. Screenshoted for the folk of Merkinch
-
P.s. they don't stand for parliament because they don't resonate with politicians and have nothing in common. See above tweet complaining about waiting a few weeks before new £70k a year salary kicks in. Hope this helps

I sincerely do not think it would stop working class people from standing for parliament - hhhmmmm it's a 70k wage (or whatever it is) but I have to wait a month to get it
naaaaah. -
Emma I think your point is well made. Campaign full time for a month & part time prep for 3 months before, & if you don’t win then what? If you have to give up a job to run for election might be hard to find another. It could stop sections of society standing & this is a concern.
