Per @BenJ_Rosenblatt, ADs 37 and 39 were two of Cabàn’s strongest. AD 40 went to Katz by a few hundred (preliminary) votes
here’s a video of lawyers for both campaigns standing by as a BOE staff member reads out ballots. Sound on for candidate names and sounds of flipping paper. This is the final table:pic.twitter.com/u6GgNQVg3X
High energy for the last table, Bolz theatrically puts in a “pinch hitter”pic.twitter.com/4ov9yw47Bs
That’s it for counting. Team Katz cheered when the last ballot (from AD 39) went her way. Next up is lawyers debating objected ballots (dq’d during the recount for things like stray marks). Cabàn attorney predicts that process will also wrap today. Results certified next Tuesday.
Now BOE staff are manually entering recount results in a spreadsheet. First column shows the ED and AD. Columns are for candidates, overvotes, undervotes, write-in names, write-in votes, void, totalpic.twitter.com/1RtP6IwvIc
Cabàn lawyer @JerryGoldfeder just now to scrum of reporters, on his way out for break: “I’ll tell you what’s up. We’re going to be in court and we’re going to win.”
Tyquana Rivers volunteered for Katz and is a consultant from southeast Queens. She’s wearing her “lucky sweater,” the same sweater she wore during the paper ballot count when Katz picked up a 20-vote leadpic.twitter.com/eJvjoW9meR
We just learned that @CabanForQueens herself will be at a presser here in Middle Village at 1:45. @chrisychung confirmed with Katz team that Katz will not be present
side note, I have never felt so smug about a reporting snack. i mean, how obnoxious is this?pic.twitter.com/uYKGIhB5Sp
large press scrum for @CabanForQueens presser in middle village, just as @MelindaKatz declares victory in a press release (no margin clarified). Cabàn not expected to concede:pic.twitter.com/UUR62caeMu
“This race is not over,” @CabanForQueens says. Adds she is “incredibly proud” of the volunteers who are “fearless” in “taking on the county machine.”pic.twitter.com/uZvVU7iro8
repeats campaign line that all valid votes must be counted
@JimmyVanBramer says @CabanForQueens campaign is both “for criminal justice reform and against a machine.”
@JerryGoldfeder says the margin is about 60 votes for Katz right now. Emphasizes that this is “just a step in the process.”
@CabanForQueens says she won’t be taking on any public defender clients while this process continues, even tho she is running low on $, because she wouldn’t be able to commit to a whole case. Says she wants to be candid about the challenges of running as a grassroots candidate
volunteer counter with the final tally for AD 37, definitely goes to @CabanForQueenspic.twitter.com/MvKnZV8IAt
