I don't even like the show that much, but its worldview is everywhere, "South Park Republicans" was briefly a thing, and it continues to be a comfortably rated tv show to this day.

(Caveat here that I mostly know film and tv, and the real answer is probably an early '90s rap album or artist. Maybe NWA.)

Also, um, I regret to inform you J.K. Rowling is a Gen-Xer. Anyway it's not Rent.

My South Park pick is driven by how it was both made by Gen-Xers and deeply driven by the predominant worldview associated with Gen-X culture. If it's JUST "a work of art made by a Gen-Xer," then it's probably Harry Potter.

Everyone who doesn't see this is trying really hard not to see it (which is an understandable response tbh)

*whispers* South Park’s even got a better musical than Rent

I don't know if I agree with this take or not, but it sure made me laugh.

Especially considering the one-two punch of South Park and Jon Stewart's Daily Show on Comedy Central! If you combine them both into one entry, I think they get that award by a country mile.

People care about the show about caring about things, and care less about the show about how caring about things is stupid and boring?
