Have you read Neil Gaiman's Sandman? This comes up as one final indignity heaped on a woman in that story, it's handled as a tragedy but I've heard people say it's still problematic.

I mean, I don't love cis people telling stories about us that boil down to "What a hard life they must lead!" Yes, we live hard lives (often), but they are our own, not there for sadness points in some other narrative. (I could never get in to Sandman.)
