For me: I had to choose between two job offers as a young pup: Riverside, California; or Omaha, Nebraska. I liked the Omaha job more but also wanted to get out of the Great Plains, which led me to California and everything since.

Another from my life: I got accepted to an MFA program after finishing college, then learned how much I liked having money over the summer between the two. I was getting emails from my other life as a creative writing student up to three years ago.

When I was in 4th grade I wanted to play drums but the school gave me trumpet instead and I'm pretty sure there's another timeline in which I'm successful and happy specifically because of this.

Wow I signed up to play the trumpet but they ran out! So I joined choir instead and did that plus musicals until I graduated HS

I had an idea for a book in 2004. I had no professional writing experience, but I had interviewed bands, read a lot of books on bands, and knew a few things about playing in a band. I decided to write the book and it led to me being a freelancer. No regrets.
