    While a lot of these downtowns grew *denser*, we also found some places where the opposite happened, as whole neighborhoods were targeted for blight demolition. Here’s just a few blocks in Detroit, at the beginning and end of the decade:

    Boy oh boy was there a lot of parking around many American downtowns a decade ago (and still today!). Here’s the South Park district of downtown L.A. in 2009. Many of these lots now have buildings on them.
