.@jack, please don’t blame the current state of play on communications. These decisions aren’t easy, but they aren’t comms calls and it’s unhelpful to denigrate your colleagues whose credibility will help explain them 1/4https://twitter.com/jack/status/1026984245925793792 …

Truth is we’ve been terrible at explaining our decisions in the past. We’re fixing that. We’re going to hold Jones to the same standard we hold to every account, not taking one-off actions to make us feel good in the short term, and adding fuel to new conspiracy theories.

Also, FWIW I think this is the wrong call. Jones’ behavior isn’t a one-off. Twitter started examining offline behavior as a factor in verification last fall. If your policy doesn’t account for Jones-like activity on/offline then the policy isn’t serving a healthy conversation 2/4

If I still worked for you I’d have advised you to frame this as a sign that if current Twitter policies permit verified accounts to encourage followers to harass/harm people offline, then the policies aren’t working as intended & Twitter is looking hard at the way forward 3/4

Designing scalable policy on this is incredibly hard. No company will always get it right. But this is an opportunity to take a stand and commit to making and enforcing hard choices in service of promoting healthy conversation. I hope you revisit this decision. 4/4

So far NOT ONE accuser, person, media outlet etc has offered any proof that Jones fomented harassment of anyone. Where's your proof? Don't give me some article that has the ability to but does not post video proof of their claims. If it happened the video evidence does exist.

That's a great call out Emily. No one should be harassed, harmed, or bullied yet that is exactly what is happening to conservatives. See @RealCandaceO and @charliekirk11 breakfast. If you are conservative you are considered a Nazi and everything you say is hate speech.

I agree 100% Emily - As a Trust & Safety Specialist, we have an obligation in this field to do the ethical thing. Just like you said, if the rules permit someone to use the platform as a platform to encourage abuse, the platform's rules are broken. @jack

So we should track back every bad thing that happens to a Twitter tweet and try to decide causation? Caustic responses more often seem to come from "holier than thou" leftist positions. Wandering main stream twitter is unappetizing right now. Forget trending topics.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by trying to decide causation? I do think that @twitter 's Trust & Safety Team should track and take the appropriate action in response to all tweets that are threatening in nature or incite violence. @TwitterSafety

It seems like the off-line behavior review is in relation to Verification. Personally, I think Verification should be available to anyone who is able to verify their identify. She is speaking against Alex's on platform behavior encouraging off platform violence which is wrong.

But how do you tie them, hence causality. Or doesn't it matter? So then what are those rules, and why would behavior be tied to getting a check mark?

I work in Trust & Safety but not for Twitter, but here's my guess: Verification is a perk, it's not required to access and use the platform. If off-platform behavior is considered violent or not in line with the company's mission, why endorse them?

It's an argument. But leads to subjective opinion. @RealAlexJones was one of a few to object to U.S. bombing Damascus over premature assessment of possible sarin use. U.S. claimed open source helped their decision, did not listen to Russian assertions. No sarin found. Causality?
