I decided that this year, every day, I would knit a row on a scarf to mark the corresponding daily temperature/weather of my town. It felt like a good way to engage with the changing climate and with the changing year. A way to notice and not look away. Here's January then.

We have had 17 publishers send in their most thought-provoking, social justice-y, Trump-busting children’s books. Which is nice. But we would like 50 please. Thank you.

Books, not bombs! We shout loudly to protect ALL children's futures from violence and war. Instead of turning to guns, we prefer to invite people to read books, come together and understand each other. Please speak out and show your support for

Standing with and so many other children's authors & illustrators against another needless war that will only cause suffering. Instead we must channel all our resources into protecting our precious ecosystem, and thereby our precious children.

More children will be blown to pieces. I ask world leaders to focus on that image: someone small torn apart by a bomb, or left alone and bloody when all they have has been taken. It's a recipe to make terrorists+brew more division+hate long into the future

Let's put out a statement from authors and illustrators of children's books e.g. 'Children are killed, maimed and marked for life by war. We fear that politicians might take us down that route again. We plead with them to find other ways to resolve this matter.'
