The Trump administration is rescinding Obama-era guidance that encouraged schools to take a person's race into account to encourage diversity in admissions.http://apne.ws/NMSAUcF

Intellectual diversity is important yes.
-
I agree, intellectual diversity is important and it accompanies racial and cultural diversity, because by incorporating different races/cultures you incorporate diverse world views.
-
I think this is a fallacy especially in terms of student and faculty makeup.

How can intellectual diversity decline if they're doing admissions based on merit lol
-
I'm referring to racial/cultural diversity. If you stop watering a plant, is it irrational to say that it will stop growing? The same is true for racial diversity in colleges; if you stop actively trying to facilitate it, it will decline in some degree.

So you’re saying we need to lower the standards for the dumb Minorities? I’m insulted. I can get good grades without your crutch
-
That's not at all what I'm saying. Due to the history of the US, especially in regard to race, minorities have been held back socially and academically and still suffer the effects of past institutional racism, which is counterbalanced when minorities are given extra support.

No it will not. If schools want to be diverse, they can do so without needing permission from the government. State schools, if they are to exist, should be admitting based on merit only. Private schools should admit based on whatever criteria they choose.
-
If what you say is true....then there wouldn't have been a need for the previous administration to make these changes....
-
Wrong. When assessing an INDIVIDUAL for entrance to college, or a job, or whatever, the INDIVIDUAL merits should be taken into consideration. They should not be FORCED to consider collectivist traits like race.
-
Yes if you live in a world where being born "white" allows you the ability to live on an equal playing field.... But when EXCLUSION had been predicated on ones skin for years, I'm sure you didn't have an issue...
-
Please, spare me your victim status. I'm Hispanic and I didn't need bullshit affirmative action to get where I'm at today. It's about desire. You have to work for it. Work hard, study, perform well and you will do well.
-
You obviously don't know your history, and no victim status here... Hard work is is very subjective....A house wife will state maintaining a home is hard work...Construction work is hard...but running a race uphill against an opponent on flat ground is a different thing....
-
I'm talking about NOW. Get with the times. The problem is the current affirmative action policies, mainly seen in universities, where Asians and Whites are put at a disadvantage. Asians experience the greatest disadvantage. Do some research next time.https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2017/08/03/opinions/liberals-affirmative-action-asian-factor-bauerlein/index.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A%2Brss%2Fcnn_topstories%2B(RSS%3A%2BCNN%2B-%2BTop%2BStories)&__twitter_impression=true …

You are either too young or don't care to know your history....so trying to convince you as to why that reversal was a disadvantage to people of color is a waste of good characters... be blessed and keep working hard...

"Diversity is vital in any environment" I'm guessing you haven't heard of South Africa's current sotuation. Oh, and let me not even get started with "Sweeden". P.S Forced Diversity = Cancer.

So you're saying minorities lack intelligence and can't make it into schools as well without a handicap put on their application?
-
no she’s saying schools aren’t smart enough to be as diverse as they should on their own
-
So then what % of each race should there be in each school? What quota would you put in place?
-
i don’t want a quota i’d rather it not be one but since it’s a necessity a combination of % applied and % population in this country
-
Chauncey, does your opinion apply to gender, as well? Almost 60% of graduates are women. Should we put black men over black women?
-
i would do the same for gender yes.
-
And what if there aren't enough applicants of a certain race or gender? Who gets the empty spots. How do you keep them from calling the school racist? How many genders do you recognize? Why not keep it simple and go with whoever is most qualified, regardless of sex or skin color.
-
because schools don’t do that now. if they did they wouldn’t have this problem.
