What is your first childhood memory of a presidential campaign and being aware of the candidates running? Mine is the 2000 general election, SNL's Al Gore "lockbox" spoof. Not sure I remember hearing about a primary candidate who didn't win the nomination before 2008.

Also remember some kid in middle school making fun of John Kerry's purple hearts in the midst of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign.

I had this vague idea that Al Gore would assign me extra homework and GWB would order pizza and let us stay up til 11

Also in the late 90s I thought Ken Starr was the Vice President and that he was gunning for his boss’s job. No one wanted to explain to me what Clinton was in trouble for so I filled in a lot of the blanks.

Mine is the Clinton/Bush race in 1992. I have vivid memories of my parents watching the debates on TV and then them watching the returns the night of the election on ABC News with Peter Jennings. And, rolling their eyes every time someone said they’d vote for Ross Perot haha.

Being the only child at Immaculate Conception School whose parents were voting for Nixon in 1960, and being foolish enough to admit this in the playground.

Ha! I just posted a tweet about the exact same era, but about JFK. I went to Ascension School BTW where the mere mention of Nixon’s name was considered to be blasphemous!

My dad yelling at Reagan through the TV, saying that he was going to crush the middle class.

Your dad was smart. It took 40 years, but he did crush the middle class.
